Mo Jazz Brings A Strong Group of Players!

Good For The Soul (4:40 pm)

This explosive four-piece outfit, bassist John King, keyboardist Adaron "Pops" Jackson, James Jackson on drums, and guitarist Shaun Robinson, draws upon jazz, funk, fusion, gospel, and R&B repertoires to deliver a powerful and unapologetic sound that excites and thrills audiences.  When this band hits the stage, there are no boundaries.  The only guarantee is a night of world-class music that is Good 4 The Soul!

Ghost-Note (7:20 pm)

Headed by Snarky Puppy's Grammy winning percussion duo of Robert "Sput" Searight and Nate Werth, Ghost-Note is an explosion of sound.  With an expansive roster of next-level musicians, the band is pushing funk music into the future, infusing their fresh take on tastes of afrobeat, hip-hop, psychedelia, world folklore, and more.

Columbia Jazz Orchestra (2:00 pm)

The seventeen-piece Columbia Jazz Orchestra's goal is to enrich and expand local culture, as well as to preserve the American art form of big band jazz through collaboration, education, innovation, advocacy, and performance.

Megan Birdsall (3:20 pm)

Kansas City native and talented vocalist Megan Birdsall is one of the many women of jazz with a gift for song.  Birdsall's music explores contemporary traditional jazz, voicing uncommon standards and providing fresh news interpretations using her soulful velvet vocals to swing the lyrics.

Tom Andes Quartet  (6:00 pm)

Tom Andes has been a staple in the Jazz Forward Initiative festival lineup for nearly three decades, having performed in 18 of the 30 previous festivals.  This year he brings his quartet to swing on fast driving jazz standards and share his creative originals, mixing straight-ahead with funk, fusion, and some blues.
